  Description
Appendicitis is inflammation of the appendix.

Appendicitis is not easy to diagnose. Almost half cases of appendicitis do not present typical signs and symptoms.

Appendicitis is one of the most common causes of acute abdominal pain, which is located in the right lower quadrant.

Other conditions may have similar symptoms, such as gastroenteritis, urinary tract infection, or kidney stone.

If not treated, severe complications may happen with appendix’s rupture causing peritonitis and possibly sepsis.
  Diagnosis

The diagnosis of appendicitis is based on:

- Patient's signs and symptoms

- Complete blood count test (to check for infections)

- Urine test (to identify other causes)

- Ultrasound

- CT scan.
