ASTHMA
Treatment

   Common Prescriptions
There is currently no cure for asthma. But with proper treatment, people with asthma can have fewer and less severe attacks. Treatments are usually focused in avoiding the substances that trigger the symptoms and control airway inflammation.

Episodes of shortness of breath and wheezing are generally achieved with bronchodilators. These are typically provided as inhalers, asthma spacer or nebulizer.

There are two types of medication to treat patients with asthma:

 - Relievers. They are the medicines taken immediately when asthma symptoms appear. Relievers help by  relaxing the muscles surrounding the airways making it easier to breathe again but without reducing the swelling in the airways; and

- Preventers, also called controllers, are used to reduce the swelling and inflammation in the airways.
