infarction, also called acute myocardial infarction but commonly known as a
heart attack, is the interruption of blood supply (ischemia) to a part of the
heart, causing oxygen deficiency and the death of heart cells. Usually it occurs
due to blockage of a coronary artery. If left untreated, it can cause damage of
heart muscle tissue.
Some people may have unusual symptoms or not symptoms at all, a condition
that is called "silent heart attack".
Some of the risk factors are:
- Hyperlipidemia, including high levels of cholesterol.
