  Description
Prostatitis is the inflammation of the prostate gland. Prostatitis is classified as follow:

- Acute.
- Chronic.
- Asymptomatic.
- Chronic non bacterial or Chronic pelvic pain syndrome

Prostatitis can be also bacterial or non bacterial. Flu-like symptoms are common to the bacterial form.

The sudden onset of the acute prostatitis can be caused by a bacterial infection. Fever, chills and a painful urination are the most common symptoms of this type of prostatitis. It usually requires hospitalization.

The symptoms of chronic bacterial prostatitis appear gradually. Chronic non bacterial prostatitis is also called Chronic pelvic pain syndrome and causes symptoms of inflammation and pain in the prostate area.

Asymptomatic prostatitis does not show symptoms but inflammation of the prostate.

Sometimes, prostatitis symptoms are similar to other conditions.
  Diagnosis
Doctors may order the following tests and procedures to confirm the diagnosis:

- Urine test.
- Ultrasound.
- CT, MRT scans (to rule out other causes).
